about

Dani & I did a two week trip around the South Island (Living out of my wagon) almost immediately after we finished our studies at Polytech.

This track came about largely from a growing, & slightly philosophical notion which drove the flow of the trip.
That being simply the acceptance of that which was "The right decision at the time".

Feeling like I was properly switching off for the first time one pretty & peaceful evening in Akaroa I put pen to paper & began describing the environment, & then reflectively branched off from there using the song as a stage for most recent, & significant thoughts.
The bridge section was actually added in at a later date. I consider it an interesting tangent, a sort of injection of angst & a brief window to my inner struggles of the time.

The song structure is quite classic really, but I think it has an unusual sound & a unique flare.
Stripped back yet subtly technical, I quite like how it turned out.

lyrics

Abstract energy crafts a place
With a gentle breeze, a lapping tide, a beautiful bay with rolling hills calms an uncoiling mind.
Seated for the first time
Watching the evening grow
The sudden flicker of lights is not missed as the town assumes its glow…

The right decision at the times
Lead a boy to where he lays.
Armed with a camera & equipped with a mind
Evolving experiences igniting the eyes.

A new universe evolving from the inside out
The pressure keeps on loading, sure to be imploding.
Compulsive diligence possibly giving way to a
Spontaneous intelligence & a new hand to play…

I’m getting tired of this fence!
Barbed with rusty suspense
The tree is seen on one side
But the roots, draw from the…

Right decision at the times
Lead a boy to where he lays.
Armed with a camera & equipped with a mind
Evolving experiences igniting the eyes.
