At the time of this release this song remains my biggest, most elaborate studio project to date. I learnt most of what I now know about mixing & signal processing off my old windows laptop during its creation.
It was the first time I had worked with other musicians on a song of my own, & the first time I had tracked bass & drums, let alone flute in studio.
As the albums title track it also became the basis for my music video project, which was also a first time endeavor.
The seed came about one late candle lit night when my partner and I had gone away for the weekend to the aptly named “skyland”, an old cabin high up in the hills.
We had been having some deep conversations that evening about what we thought life was all about, and where we might have been heading with it.
There was a surreal vibe in the air late that night and I really did feel at one point as though my time lines had converged on that one moment. I could see the lights of the whole BOP shining below us and the best way I can think to describe the feeling was that I was “gazing out this window at my life”, all that I had been growing up in the region, and all that I could be in the future.
I went through my whole school life feeling like the watchful outsider that often didn’t really fit in anywhere so I think in a way I had spent years building towards writing this song.
I decided the main theme would be this idea of observing life, and the alternate perceptions and levels of enlightenment that doing so can give a person, particularly the notion that;
As humans we are gifted with the consciousness to observe nature, the world and life turn around us. With no other creature on the planet appearing to have this same right and luxury we become unique and gifted by awareness of our own mortality.
The flip side of course is that we all still have our own existences to sustain, and applying these powers of observation to ones own life can be a stressful exercise.
lyrics
Disconnected mind watches rain control traffic, like the moon controls the tide.
Seeing once again linkage that runs through all veins, everything could be explained.
Watching the world turn round you. Being aware of, being a part of, then
One long night you find you’re in limbo, as it all comes to a point of transition.
The time lines converge on the moment, and you gaze out the window at life.
Walking through my past thinking into the future, when to take the next steps.
How to build my empire with just desire, my mind now on fire.
Tracking time turning round you. Being aware of, being a part of, then
One long night you find you’re in limbo, as it all comes to a point of transition.
The time lines converge on the moment, and you gaze out the window at life.
